Boxing used to be king. Almost all of the headline fights used to be nationally televised on network TV. But I think it took a big hit when it decided to not only do pay per view for title fights, but also to do pay per view for non-title fights.|||Yes i agree, Pay-per view has certainly hurt boxing. But the sport has also suffered greatly because of the lack of great champions, especially in the heavyweight division. Champions today seem to lack that large fan base we see in other sports. Another reason, i believe, is the way fights are judged and scored. It%26#039;s ridiculous seeing two judges score a fight completely opposite, that makes no sense to me and i dare say, to most fans. Why can%26#039;t we see the scoring after each round? I admit boxing is one of the hardest sports to score but these sanctioning bodies that govern the sport seem to be hesitant to move into the 21st century. i see no effort being made to use todays technology to improve boxing. Too many governing bodies, each with their own agenda has certainly held back this sport. Making boxing more available to fans would be a step in the right direction.|||It hasn%26#039;t helped the fans or potential fans, but it has made a lot of people very rich in boxing. It would be hard to find a sponsor willing to shell out big bucks for a fight, because when could they show a commercial? its one minute between rounds and people might want to see some replays or commentators could catch up. Also if the fight is a horrible one the sponsor just lost out with the money they put in.
I think it hurt as much as other things but it har really killed the growth of new fans for the sport. how can anyone watch quality boxing with out cable or PPV???|||not only that but no one watches it anymore, boxing is boring compared to the popular MMA that has taken hold. way more people watch UFC now adays then they do just regular boring boxing matches.....
